Scotts Turf Builder Tall Fescue Grass Seed Mix Review
Scotts Turf Builder Tall Fescue Grass Seed Mix is a mixture of primarily cool-season perennial grasses which adapt well to either partially shady or sunny areas. When Tall Fescue seeds are densely sown, they form a coarse to moderate-textured lawn, homogenous in appearance, that has good disease and weed resistance. Tall Fescue generally stays green through cool weather conditions and tolerates warmer summer temperatures. This species is low-maintenance, tolerates infrequent mowing and moderate traffic, and is also tolerant of drought and heat stress.
Scotts Tall Fescue mix contains 1-2 different Southern-bred varieties of Tall Fescue. The breakdown of grasses in this mix include 17.06% Endeavor 2 Tall Fescue (bright medium-green color, traffic and heat tolerant, upright, dense growth, low maintenance shade or sun), 17.06% Dynamic 2 Tall Fescue (drought tolerant, low growing, high traffic tolerant, grows in shade or sun), 17.06% Gazelle 2 Tall Fescue (low growing, high traffic tolerant, finer textured, grows well in shade or sun in more temperate climates), and 14.36% Faith Tall Fescue (dark green, low maintenance, traffic tolerant, fine bladed). This mix also contains inert seed (1.75%), other crop seed (0.25%), and weed seed (0.1%).

Scotts Turf Builder Tall Fescue Grass Seed Mix should be planted in either Spring or Fall when temperatures range between 60 and 80 degrees (optimum seeding time is around Labor Day). Planting your seeds two weeks after or before that holiday will ensure that the new seedlings will have time to build some strong roots before Winter hits. You can also plant Scotts Tall Fescue Mix in the Springtime to take advantage of the heavier rainfall and moderate temperatures. It takes an average of 6 to 30 days to germinate.
For the best results, rake the area to loosen up top soil layer and to remove dead grass. Add a very thin layer of Turf Builder LawnSoil prior to seed application. Use a spreader, followed by lightly raking seeds into the soil. Scotts Starter Food for New Grass can be applied at this time. Water enough to keep your soil surface moist, up until seedlings are about 2 inches tall. The WaterSmart coating helps to prevent seedlings from drying out if you skip a few days of watering.
A 3-pound bag covers 330 square feet if used for bare spot repair or new lawns, and approximately 750 square feet when used for reseeding. A 40-pound bag covers 4,400 square feet when used for new lawns, and approximately 10,000 square feet when used for reseeding. Its fertilizer content is 3-1-0. Total nitrogen (N) in this product is 3% (water soluble nitrogen 1.2% and water insoluble nitrogen 1.8%). The amount of available phosphate is 1%.
