Out of the box, the Greenworks 20312 Chainsaw is ready to use.
It comes with a 40V 16” battery and included charger. This model can be purchased with or without the battery as well.
Also included in a purchase of this chainsaw is a scabbard and travel bag for storage and transportation. Once assembled, the chainsaw weighs in at just over 10 pounds – making it easily maneuverable for most people.
One of the primary selling features of the Greenworks 20312 is the fact that its design incorporates a brushless motor.
The design of its electronic components ensures that the engine does not lose efficiency because of the brushes come into contact with the rotation portions of the motor. As a result, brushless motors run significantly cooler than traditional gas-powered models. Their engines tend to be quieter and produce less vibration for the user.
Because no brushes are included in the design, the motor has a longer lifespan, and it requires virtually little to no maintenance over the lifetimes of the chainsaw. This is a significant step forward in the current technology for cordless tools.
Another highlight of the 20312 is the fact that its design incorporates an Oregon-branded, 16-inch steel bar and chain. By comparison, the majority of other cordless chainsaws have only a 14” bar. The 16" bar is generously sized, but not so large that it cannot be comfortably used.
What users tend to appreciate about this particular chainsaw is the fact that it features an abundance of safety features.
There are standard safety features, like hand guards and chain brakes, but a particular standout is the fact that when the trigger is released, the engine automatically cuts off and all noise ceases. Furthermore, the chainsaw automatically shuts itself off after 60 seconds of inactivity to prevent discharging of the battery.
Chain Oiling & Tensioning
As one would expect, oiling of the saw’s blade is automatic. The chain oil reservoir is located on the left side of the chainsaw. The reservoir cap is tethered, so users don’t have to worry about losing it.
Chain removal and tensioning are performed by two simple to use dials located on the right hand of the machine. Overall, the chain seems to hold its tension well; however, some users have complained that the small size of the oil reservoir makes it clog rather easily.
The Greenworks 20312, and all of its included components are covered by a 4 year, limited warranty from the manufacturer. If the chainsaw is to be used for commercial purposes, the warranty only lasts for 90 days.
