BLACK+DECKER LST136W String Trimmer Review

My Rating:

I must admit, I have never used this exact trimmer, but I do have countless hours of experience using similar string trimmers. I know what it’s like fighting the weight of a heavy, gas-powered trimmer and the exhausting vibration that makes it so fun. So, when I say that after all my research I’d love to try this BLACK+DECKER trimmer I’m not just saying it because I should, I’m saying it because I would.

With that being said, as we all know, there are many high quality cordless string trimmers on the market today, and each has its pros and cons. After copious amounts of research, here are a few things to consider.

See below to read some of the pros and cons of using the BLACK+DECKER LST136W.

  • plus-circle
Lightweight to help reduce vibration and user fatigue
  • plus-circle
Consistent Power with fast charging battery (1 hour charge time)
  • plus-circle
Adjustable power levels (1-6 setting options)

  • Limited power (about 10-25min) before recharge
  • Lacks the power of gas motors or larger battery

  • Switches from trimmer to edger with practically no effort; just rotate the shaft of the trimmer to switch between trimming and edging.
  • The PowerDrive Transmission offers the user more power to get the job done.
  • With a 40V lithium battery, users can run this string trimmer longer than others charged by smaller batteries.
  • Manually adjustable command dial that ranges from level 1 (least powerful) to level 6 (most powerful) to help save battery by only using the power necessary for the job.
  • AFS (Automatic Feed Spool) allows the user to continue working without bumping for more feed
  • Trigger starter allows for easy start and function; no need to pull a cord or fight a gas motor.

The BLACK+DECKER LST136W 40V MAX Lithium String Trimmer is a battery charged string trimmer that seems to be a great trimmer option for anyone looking to do regular yard work.

The best features of this trimmer are its weight, versatility, power, and feeding spool.

Many trimmers on the market today, especially gas-powered trimmers are heavy and cumbersome. Unlike gas-powered trimmers, the BLACK+DECKER string trimmer is lightweight and easy to maneuver.

This weight difference can make all the difference. With a lighter a machine, the user can work longer and end the day with more energy. Also, without an engine powering it and the weight holding it down, the trimmer barely vibrates and doesn’t put any unnecessary strain on the user.

Overall, there really is no downfall to working with a lighter machine. Unless you’re looking for a workout, then this trimmer won’t give you as much of a workout as a heavier motor trimmer.

One of the great things about this trimmer is that it is versatile. Many gas-powered trimmers are cumbersome and difficult to maneuver. The BLACK+DECKER trimmer is more lightweight and can be easily adjusted in hand. This allows for an angle adjustment of the string so you can switch from trimming to edging with the flick of your wrist.

It cuts clean edge lines and doesn’t wear out the user. This is another one of the selling points for the BLACK+DECKER String Trimmer.

As for the power, it can either be a restriction or not. This BLACK+DECKER string trimmer has enough power to tackle most standard yard work. Though it has enough power to cut through grass and a few thick weeds, it does struggle with thicker brush and dense weeds.

If you use the highest setting to get through the thick patches, the 40V battery will only last about 10-15 minutes. On the lowest setting, you can get between 25-30 minutes of use.

Another shortcoming of this power source is that it needs to be charged far more often than a gas-powered machine needs to be refilled. It can be an inconvenience to stop so often when you’re working on a project that requires more time than the battery can offer.

All in all, the greatest power downfall of the BLACK+DECKER trimmer is that it loses power quickly during difficult tasks and only last a short time for smaller jobs. Depending on what jobs you’re working on will determine if this is a problem for you or not.

AFS (Automatic Feeding Spool)

When it comes to the feeding spool, we all know the annoyance of having to bump the head of the trimmer to get more string. This can be a major pain if the bumping stops working and you have to thread the line manually.

With this trimmer, it is designed to feed the string when it gets short automatically.

The only downside of this feature is if it breaks, you have to revert to the annoying task of manually feeding the string and keeping track of string length.

There are many string trimmers on the market today that outshine this particular model, but in many aspects, this BLACK+DECKER model kicks the competitions butt.

Sure you’ve got the time restrictions and power limits, but if you’re just working around your yard and aren’t trying to take down a miniature forest, this little trimmer will do the job. Not only is it a cheaper option, but it is also the more ergonomic one. The lightweight body and significantly reduced vibration make this trimmer a user favorite.
